Overview

The all-new 2011 Kia Optima takes everything about a mid-size sedan and flips it on its head. It starts with Optima's breathtaking design, recognized with a string of prestigious awards from the world's leading design forums1 It continues with an exceptional 2.4-litre gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine - one of two Optima engine choices; that delivers class-leading horsepower. Even Optima's safety goes beyond the conventional: It's one of the few vehicles anywhere to have earned an IIHS "Top Safety Pick" and a NHTSA 5-Star Overall Safety rating for 2011.2

An available two-panel panoramic sunroof bathes both rows of seats in light. The front panel tilts and slides for an open-air driving experience.

Available 18" alloy wheels; including these standard Sport wheels on SX models, enhance Optima's dynamic look and performance.

All Optima models are equipped with standard heated power side mirrors designed with integrated LED turn signals to alert adjacent drivers to your turning or lane-change intentions.

Optima EX Luxury and SX models come with standard high-intensity discharge (HID) Xenon headlights for superior night time visibility, lower energy consumption and longer service life.1

The 2011 Optima's award-winning design brings a new level of sophistication to mid-size sedan styling. Reviewers have called it "striking, yet restrained"1 and "close to show-stopping"2 Within this unique package is a wide and exceptional array of practical standard features including automatic headlights, fog lights and a heated windshield wiper de-icer; all beautifully integrated into Optima's dynamic, flowing lines.

  Interior
The comfort of Optima is shared by everyone inside. The award-winning interior features roomy seating for five and heated front seats, plus a dynamic, six-speaker audio system with Sirius® satellite radio1 - all standard. For the driver, Optima provides a standard tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with an available heating function for those cold winter mornings and standard, voice-activated Bluetooth® hands-free cell phone technology2 for safer driving.

With available dual-zone automatic climate control, Optima is never too cold, never too warm. The driver and front passenger chose their individual comfort settings and the system automatically maintains them.

The standard leather seats on Optima EX Luxury and SX models are heated, ventilated and cooled for year-round comfort. Heated rear seats are also standard on these models.

Kia's Smart Key system lets you unlock the vehicle and start the engine without having searching your pockets or purse for a key. It's standard on Optima EX, EX Luxury and SX models.

Kia UVO Powered by Microsoft®1 is an available, cutting-edge entertainment, communication and information system that gives you voice-activated control over the audio system, your MP3 player and your Bluetooth®-enabled cell phone.

Performance
Optima's sophisticated styling is matched by its highly refined performance. A four-wheel independent suspension system and electric power-assisted steering combine to give Optima crisp, responsive handling and a smooth, luxurious ride. You'll also be pleasantly surprised by the power of Optima's two available four-cylinder engines, including a 2.0-litre, 274-horsepower turbo (Optima SX) and a 2.4-litre, 200 horsepower gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine with class-leading power1 rated at up to 5.7L/100 km (50 mpg) on the highway and 8.7L/100 km (32 mpg) in the city.

Optima offers a choice of three transmissions - a 6-speed manual (standard on Optima LX), an available 6-speed Steptronic automatic with manual shift mode, and a close-ratio 6-speed Steptronic automatic with steering-wheel paddle shifters (standard on Optima SX).

The standard engine on Optima LX, EX and EX Luxury models uses gasoline direct injection (GDI) technology to deliver 200 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque with quiet confidence and low emissions.

With a push of the ECO button on the steering wheel, the available Active Eco System automatically adjusts the engine and transmission for optimal fuel efficiency.

Turbocharging and gasoline direct injection (GDI) technologies work together to deliver V6-calibre horsepower (274 @ 6,000 rpm) with the fuel-efficiency of a sophisticated four-cylinder engine. Standard on the sporty Optima SX.

Safety
The greatest pleasure of all is knowing you're safe. Optima comes with a full array of standard safety features, including six airbags, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes and an impact-sensing system that automatically unlocks the doors following a collision, making it easier for first-responders to assist you. All this is wrapped in a rigid, reinforced body structure for added crash protection.

The driver and front-passenger seats on all Optima models feature anti-whiplash active headrests that move forward and upward in the first milliseconds of a crash to help reduce neck injuries.

Using selective brake and engine intervention, Optima's standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control System (TCS) help you maintain better control in emergency manoeuvres and slippery driving conditions.

Available Rear Camera Park Assist uses the UVO system or navigation system screen to display a wide-angle picture of the area behind your Optima whenever you shift into Reverse. It helps make parking safer and easier.

Standard Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) helps keep Optima from rolling backward when starting off on steep hill. It automatically holds brake pressure for two seconds after you release the brake pedal.

The all new Kia Optima; with all its features its a midsize sedan, but with a sports car complex.
