A Closer Look at Kia's EV Lineup

You might wonder what makes the Kia EV lineup stand out. The answer is simple. Kia has focused on providing the things drivers need most, starting with easy charging. Kia's electric lineup offers a patented multi-charging system capable of quick charging without a separate controller. That means you add a hundred kilometres of range in minutes with DC fast charging. This system is perfect for drivers who are always on the go or when you forget to plug in before leaving home. However, Kia also makes it easy to install a Level 2 home charger or even recharge your car from a standard 110V household outlet.

Another perk for Canadian drivers is the available heat pump system for Kia EVs that helps you maximize your battery range even in cold temperatures. The system is far more efficient than the resistive heating elements found in older electric vehicles for sale, keeping you nice and warm through the most frigid Canadian winters.

You also gain the support of the Kia brand when purchasing a Kia EV. Kia has been a powerhouse of reliability and innovation since the brand arrived in Canada in 1998. Since then, Kia has won numerous awards for fuel efficiency, versatility, safety, and more. In fact, Kia's consistent five-star ratings have made it a household name in Canadian homes. Now, the brand is focusing on manufacturing environmentally-friendly vehicles with the same comforts and connectivity as gas-powered cars but with zero emissions.

Now that you know about the lineup in general and a few of its benefits, let's look at some of the model options you can choose from.

2023 Kia EV6

The 2023 Kia EV6 gives you a choice of Long Range or Standard Range battery packs with either all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive. This means you get either a 58 kWh or a 77.4 kWh battery, with the larger considered the Long Range option. The EV6 comes in six trims, with all but the base Rear-Wheel Drive offering Long Range capabilities. The 2023 EV6 gives you the range you crave when choosing an electric vehicle with an estimated driving range of up to 499 km. Depending on the trim selection, you can recharge from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes.

Across the board, you'll enjoy a roomy interior with height-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and more. You'll also find a large touchscreen display with integrated navigation, front and rear USB ports, and seamless integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All 2023 EV6 models also come with Kia Connect, which can notify you when your battery is running low and help you find charging stations. In addition, the EV6 gives you a full range of standard driver-assist features, including Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Hill Assist Control, to name a few.

2023 Kia Niro EV

The 2023 Kia Niro EV offers three trims and ultimate comfort with heated seats, bright LED lighting, and solar glass standard across the board. The top two tiers, the Premium+ and the Limited, also provide you with a heated steering wheel. Regarding technology, you'll enjoy the latest features with the standard 26 cm touchscreen with integrated navigation and Kia Connect. Additionally, the 2023 Kia Niro EV has a standard Smart Key with push-button start and remote engine start.

The 2023 Niro EV is powered by a single electric motor sending 201 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. The battery will charge in around nine hours using a Level 2 charger or in as little as 43 minutes when opting for fast charging at a Level 3 charging station. The NRC-estimated driving range for the 2023 Kia Niro EV is 407 km.

You'll love the legroom and shoulder room in the Niro EV, with 93.8 cm of rear legroom and 140.7 cm of shoulder room in the back. You can also enjoy the ability to access 120V AC power when using the available Vehicle-to-Load feature, which is perfect when you take the family camping at Rainbow Valley Campground or head to Elk Island National Park for the weekend and need a little extra power.

2024 Kia EV9

The 2024 Kia EV9 is the ultimate electric family luxury. It uses the innovative Electric Global Modular Platform to offer third-row seating while giving you and your passengers the best seats around with superior comfort. This is Kia's first electric SUV with a dedicated third row. Other firsts include not one but two 31 cm displays that give you all the connectivity you need. Not only that, but you'll love the space the 2024 EV9 gives you, with more legroom than most luxury SUVs. Last but certainly not least, you have the option of second-row power-adjustable seats with leg extensions, heating, and ventilation. These perks will surely decrease the number of times you hear "Are we there yet," on road trips.

Speaking of road trips, the 2024 Kia EV9 gives you up to 480 km of estimated driving range, an available torque-vectoring dual motor all-wheel drive system, and a standard 800V electrical architecture that makes charging quick and efficient. You're also covered on the safety front with 30 standard driver-assist features that help you avoid collisions and stay safe on the road.

EV FAQs

Knowing the answers to common questions is essential as more automotive manufacturers lean toward developing EVs. At Sherwood Kia, we want you to feel comfortable with your choice to drive an EV and work hard to give you all the information you need to make an educated choice.

How easy is it to find charging stations?

There are more than 20,000 public charging stations across Canada, which gives you a wide variety of options. With Kia Connect, you can find the charging station that is closest to you with just the touch of a button. It should also be noted that since EVs are easily charged with standard household outlets or with the installation of a Level 2 home charger, most charging is done from the convenience of your driveway or garage.

How do EVs do in cold weather?

This is a great question, especially since winter temperatures in Edmonton drop well below freezing. The answer is that EVs are built for all kinds of weather. While you will see reduced range given the need to heat the vehicle, when you opt for Kia's heat pump, you gain added security during the coldest days.

Is the switch to EVs worth it?

This question will depend on your individual needs, but there are many advantages to owning an electric vehicle. For instance, you will pay less for scheduled maintenance for your EV than for a gas-powered car simply because it has fewer moving parts. Additionally, Kia EVs come with an eight-year or 150,000 km warranty on their battery and electric motors.
